To register your computer to access ResNet
The Resnet network in the dorms requires you to register your computer's physical address (Ethernet or MAC address) before being granted access online.
- From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences. Click the Network icon.
- If you are using 10.4 Tiger: Choose from your computer's Built-in Ethernet from the Show pop-up menu below the Location menu. Click on the Ethernet tab.
- If you are using 10.5/10.6: Choose Ethernet from the menu, and then click the Advanced button on the lower right. Next, click the Ethernet tab.
- Locate the Ethernet ID field. There you will find your 12-digit Hardware Ethernet Address. Your hardware ethernet (MAC) address identifies your computer and must be registered to authorize you as a ResNet user.
- Write down your hardware address and go to the Computing Account Services Web site http://accounts.ucdavis.edu in a Web browser. Select Ethernet (NIC) card registration, click Begin and follow the instructions.
- Once you have registered your address, you should have a connection in about 15 minutes. If you have successfully registered your network card, but are not getting a connection in your room within an hour, please contact IT Express at 530-754-HELP (4357) for further assistance.
