These instructions should be sufficient to help most Mac OS X Leopard users set up their computers to use the campus wireless services with 802.1x authentication. These instructions pertain to Mac OS X version 10.5 and assume that you have administrator access to the computer. For Mac OS X 10.3 & 10.4, see article 1567.


  1. Make sure Airport is turned off.
    If Airport is on, go under the Airport menu and select Turn Airport Off.


  2. Under the Airport menu, select Open Network Preferences...
    The Network Preferences Window will appear.


  3. Click Advanced....

    The Advanced Window will appear.


  4. Check the box next to "Disconnect from wireless networks when logging out"
  5. Click on the + (plus) button.
    The new preferred network Window will appear.
  6. Fill in the displayed fields with the following information:
    1. Network Name: moobilenetx
    2. Security: WPA Enterprise
    3. If you wish to always be prompted for your username
      and password, skip to step e.
    4. User Name: enter your UC Davis LoginID
    5. Password: enter your UC Davis Kerberos password
    6. 802.1X: Automatic
    7. Check the box next to "Remember this network"
  7. Click Add.


  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Turn Airport On.
  10. If you see the above message, and want your password saved in the Mac OS X Keychain for future sessions, click Always Allow.
  11. You may be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. Click Show Certificate.
  12. Check the box next to "Always trust "idengine.ucdavis.edu" "
  13. Click Continue.
  14. If prompted to make changes to your Certificate Trust Settings, enter your Mac OS X administrator username and password.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Done!
