These instructions should be sufficient to help most Mac OS X users set up their computers to use the campus wireless services with 802.1x authentication. These instructions pertain to Mac OS X version 10.4 and assume that you have administrator access to the computer. For Mac OS X 10.5, see article 1710


  1. Make sure Airport is turned on.
    If Airport is off, go under the Airport menu and select Turn Airport On.

  3. Under the Airport menu, select Open Internet Connect...
    The Internet Connect Window will appear.

  5. Click 802.1X in the toolbar.
    If you do not see an 802.1X icon, click on File, then New 802.1x Connection...
    The 802.1x Connection Window will appear.

  7. Under the "Configuration" pull down menu, select Edit Configurations...
    The Edit Configurations Window will appear.

  9. Click on the + (plus) button in the lower left-hand corner.
  10. Fill in the displayed fields with the following information:
    1. Description: moobilenetx
    2. Network Port: AirPort
    3. If you wish to always be prompted for your username
      and password, skip to step e.
    4. User Name: enter your UC Davis LoginID
    5. Password: enter your UC Davis Kerberos password
    6. Wireless Network: moobilenetx
    7. Authentication: No changes should be necessary from the default Authentication settings.
  11. Click OK to exit the Internet Connect configuration.
  12. Click Connect.
    You may be asked to accept a certificate the first time you connect. If so, the certificate will be issued by Equifax.
  13. Click Continue.

You should not need to enter your credentials (username & password) on subsequent connections to moobilenetx.

Troubleshooting: Common wireless Setup and Connection Problems

After successful completion of the above steps, the major reasons for unsuccessful connection may be one or more of the following.
